What Is High-Temp & Pressure Desorption Electrowinning System
The high-temp & pressure desorption electrowinning system, also known as the high-pressure thermal gold electrolysis unit or HTHP carbon stripping and recovery system, is a core cyanide-free leaching electrolysis device used in gold beneficiation plants to extract gold mud from gold-bearing carbon. It mainly utilizes a closed, high-temperature (150℃) and high-pressure (0.5 MPa) environment to efficiently desorb gold from gold-loaded activated carbon, and then reduces it to high-grade solid gold mud through electrolytic deposition.
This HTHP system serves as the critical link in the gold cyanidation process (CIL/CIP) for converting gold-loaded carbon into gold sludge, and is also a key gold extraction equipment that determines the recovery rate and production efficiency. Compared to normal-temperature and pressure systems, the high-efficiency HTHP electrowinning unit boosts recovery efficiency by 30%–50% and shortens the electrolysis cycle by 60%; furthermore, it is capable of processing activated carbon with high impurity loads, making it well-suited for large-scale gold processing plants.

Key Highlights Of High-Temp & Pressure Desorption Electrowinning System:
- Desorption rate 96%+; recovery 99%, minimal residual gold.
- Processing time is only 8–12 hours—a 50%–70% reduction compared to conventional systems.
- Power consumption is just one-quarter of conventional systems, significantly lowering operating costs.
- Fully automated control supports safe, unattended operation.
- No sodium cyanide added to the desorption solution; safe and environmentally friendly.
- Corrosion-resistant design; withstands harsh environments involving strong acids.
- Triple safety protection: intelligent control, automatic pressure-limiting mechanism, and safety relief valve.
- High-grade gold sludge output; suitable for direct smelting without reverse electrowinning.
Application Scenarios
- Gold CIL/CIP Plants: Efficiently desorbs and recovers gold from gold-loaded carbon; serves as the core final recovery step in the carbon-in-leach/pulp process.
- Heap Leaching Projects: Processes low-grade gold-loaded carbon produced from heap leaching operations, achieving efficient gold enrichment and recovery.
- Gold Concentrate Cyanidation Plants: Works in conjunction with cyanidation leaching processes to convert gold-loaded carbon (post-leaching) into high-grade gold sludge.
- Refractory Gold Projects: Pairs with pre-oxidation processes to handle complex gold-loaded carbon containing high levels of silver, copper, or calcium.
- Mine Expansion and Upgrading: Replaces traditional ambient-temperature/pressure desorption systems to increase processing capacity to the 1,000–5,000 t/d range and improve recovery rates.

How does it work?

The system operates based on a three-step process: “competitive ion displacement + electrolytic deposition + cyclic regeneration.”
- Desorption: Within a high-temperature, high-pressure closed-loop system, a high-concentration NaOH eluent is introduced to the gold-loaded carbon. Utilizing the mechanism of competitive anion adsorption, Au(CN)₂⁻ gold complex ions adsorbed within the activated carbon pores are forcefully displaced and eluted, yielding a gold-rich pregnant solution.
- Electrowinning stage: The precious liquid enters the pressurized electrolytic cell. Under the action of a DC electric field (voltage 2-4V, current 350-750A), gold ions gain electrons at the cathode and are reduced to metallic gold atoms, which are deposited on the cathode surface to form gold mud.
- Circulation System: The barren solution and the stripped carbon are recycled via pump assemblies, thereby reducing energy and reagent consumption.
