This project is a customized 40-ton-per-hour placer chromite beneficiation and upgrading production line built by JXSC Mining Machinery Factory for a client in Zimbabwe. Addressing the characteristics of the local alluvial chromite ore—high impurity content and uniform distribution of valuable minerals—a combined process of “primary gravity separation + magnetic separation purification” is employed. This allows for efficient separation and recovery of chromite ore without the addition of chemical reagents, while also producing magnetite concentrate as a byproduct, balancing environmental friendliness and project profitability.

(1) Pre-screening and impurity removal:

A trommel screen is a washing and screening machine. It removes large particles of waste rock and soil larger than 2mm, preventing unnecessary energy consumption in subsequent processes.

(2) Pulp preparation and conveying:

Qualified materials smaller than 2mm are pumped into a slurry tank for preparation, forming a uniform slurry before being conveyed to the gravity separation unit.

(3) Spiral chutes roughing:

A gravity separation array consisting of 14 sets of spiral chutes utilizes the density difference between chromite and gangue minerals to achieve coarse enrichment. Low-value tailings are directly discharged from the system.

(Note: As per the client’s request, because their raw ore grade is high, only one stage of processing is required. If the raw ore grade is not high, we recommend using a two-stage spiral. The middling of the first stage will be pumped to the second stage for re-separation, to achieve a higher recovery ratio.)

(4) Magnetic Separation and Upgrading:

The rough concentrate produced by gravity separation is fed into a drum magnetic separator. Based on the differences in magnetic properties of different minerals, it produces directly marketable magnetite by-products and high-grade chromium concentrate, maximizing the utilization of mineral resources.
